BODY LANGUAGE IN INTERVIEW

By: Helen Mazuva “Miss Millennium Namibia 2000”

  1. HANDSHAKE:  This is your first impression on the judges.  Make sure your handshake is firm and confident (not too hard though)  If your hands are cold, run them under water and visa versa.  If your hands are sweaty, run your wrist under cold water to cool yourself off.

  1. YOUR POSTURE:  Stand and sit with your shoulder back.  Do not slouch.

  1. MAKE EYE-CONTACT:  Look interviewer in the eye but do not stare.  Avoid looking around the room or looking down.  With the case of several judges, make eye contact with each one equally.

  1. CONTROL YOUR HANDS:  Rest your hands comfortably in your lap, occasional gesture are ok, but be careful not to give half your answer in sign language

  1. DON’T FIDGET

  1. Don’t cross your arms, this make you look defensive

  1. Don’t cross your legs, just cross them at your ankles

  1. Open arms and hands leave the impression that you are open and receptive.

YOUR ATTIRE

It is important to dress professionally.  Consider these tips:

Style: Do not wear any fancy logos and designer names on the outside of your clothes and please not too revealing and too sexy clothes, remember your going to be an ambassador and you want to give a good impression on your interview.

Jewellery: Your jewellery should be kept to a minimum and be simple. Do not wear dangling jewellery or anything that makes noise.
